Kentucky State Requirements

Continuing Education Hours

  • 24 Hours Biennially including 3 Hours Ethics.

License Renewal

  • License renewal date is the last day of the agent’s birth month.

Courses accepted for CE Credit

  • Classroom Courses
  • Self-Study Courses
  • Online Courses
  • An Instructor can earn the same number of credit hours as the student

Courses Subject Requirements

  • Three (3) hours of ethics each compliance period.
  • At least six (6) hours must be approved for lines of insurance for which agents is licensed.
  • The remaining sixteen (16) hours may be taken in any Kentucky approved course.

Annuity Requirement

  • Insurance producers licensed to sell, solicit or negotiate annuities must complete a one-time 4 hour annuity training course in order to continue to sell annuities.

Long Term Care Requirement

  • 8 hours initial LTC, 4 hours LTC every 24 months thereafter.

Carryover Requirements

  • Up to twelve (12) credit hours can be carried over to the next compliance period.

Course Repetition

  • Credit will not be given for a course that is repeated within a compliance period.

Final Exam

  • No monitor required for a final exam.

Exemptions

  • Individuals licensed less than a year at the time of compliance. They are not exempt for the following compliance period.
  • Non-resident agents who received their license through reciprocity and who have met the continuing education requirements of their home state.
